Helmut Friedrich Schäffenacker is recognized as one of the best-known artists of post-war times in and around Ulm, Germany. His works in glass and especially those in ceramic earned him a significant reputation both locally and internationally.

In Sweden and Italy, Schäffenacker's work was honoured with numerous awards.
Besides making a name for himself in the area of Ulm with utilitarian art objects realized in ceramic, he also became quite popular in much of Southern Germany through numerous public works, among them, stainless steel sculptures for the 'Landesgartenschau' 1980 in Ulm, an open-air exhibition, as well as for the 'Augsburger-Tor-Platz' in Neu-Ulm, a central traffic square.

A remarkable characteristic of Schäffenacker's oeuvre is the immense variety of materials he employed; no materials were overlooked. His creations display the full spectrum of motifs from realistic to abstract styles.

In the late 1940's and in the 1950's he began sculpting in stone, clay, wood and bronze, using traditional techniques. But he soon reached out to steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper plate, iron, synthetic resin and polyester - industrial materials of the modern world.
Born in Ulm in 1921, son of the painter Otto Schäffenacker, he also founded a workshop both for the production of one-of-a-kind art objects and also for ceramic objects in series. These things were then sold worldwide as innovative original art and artistic utilitarian objects. Everything was produced under his own 'Atelier Schäffenacker' mark, known to admirers and collectors alike.

The catalogue can be bought from the artist at a price of 45,00 Euro plus shipment.
